Pile Driver adaption For Backhoe Digger
A pile driver has been designed that fits directly to the rear of a backhoe digger that replaces the back actor assembly. The pile driver is fully integrated in to the machine and utilises the existing hydraulic services on the vehicle. Due to the size and stability of this type of digger, a larger pile driver has been developed to cater for pile sections of up to 4 meters in length using a maximum drop weight of 1.25 tons. This allows the piling operations to occur more rapidly with greater accuracy and control of the piles.

The pile driver uses a hydraulic winch and cylinder, with suitable hydraulic control components, to achieve the piling operation. The hydraulic cylinder provides the means of lifting and releasing of the drop weight, whilst the winch controls the range of drop. A powered tilt mechanism has been incorporated that works in conjunction with the original machine's slew function. This provides a more controlled adjustment to the pile angle during the piling operation. This is particularly pertinent if the ground contour falls beyond the levelling capabilities of the front bucket and the rear support legs of the digger.

The pile driver is constructed from three main sections. The bottom section provides the attachment to the digger, while the middle and top sections form the main mast assembly. The mast is designed with a powered hinge to reduce the overall height for transportation purposes.
